The village at SouthLand Ridge: Bringing Southern Hospitality to Life
An active-adult residential development, The village at SouthLand Ridge is the first community of its kind to make an appearance in Southwest Georgia. A new development by Rick Davis, The village at SouthLand Ridge is more than a just a new neighborhood, it's a new way of living being introduced to Americus.
The idea to develop such a community arose from Davis's own personal experience as he was helping his mother search for a residential community that was not only in an ideal location but also oriented around offering residents an active and engaging lifestyle.
"Today's baby boomers are staying active longer and are not just looking for a place to retire to, but a lifestyle to enjoy and make the most of," Davis said. "It was this thought process that guided the concept, core and development of The Village at SouthLand Ridge and led to it being the first maintenance-free community in Americus."
The community features quaint cottage style homes to reflect the charming small-town southern vibe present throughout Americus, and a 7,000 sq. ft. clubhouse, "The Ridge." Serving as the heartbeat of the community, "The Ridge" houses a fitness center, meeting rooms, catering kitchen and a spacious back porch, designed for entertaining, that overlooks the beach entry pool. Combining good food, a great atmosphere, and best friends in one place, it has all the ingredients you need to create the perfect recipe for southern hospitality to shine.
The community is also home to nature trails for bird watching and hiking, ponds for fishing and a community garden. "Being outdoors is essential for staying active, and it was really important that the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape was incorporated into the amenities. With such calm and temperate South Georgia weather, we knew we wanted to make nature one of the greatest amenities here at SouthLand Ridge," Davis said.
The village at SouthLand Ridge incorporates more than just nature into the community, also home to an intimate shopping and retail center and doctor's office, residents here can relax knowing convenience and care are located just down the road. "I wanted to create a community in which residents could spend time together and grow together doing activities they enjoy. The village at SouthLand Ridge is all about easy living, enjoying each day at your own convenience," said Davis.
Living at your own convenience is a mindset found not only in the community, but throughout the town as well. Americus, an intimate town of 19,000 is rich in history and culture, offering a variety of social opportunities including theaters, dining, sports activities and churches for residents. The town also prides itself in education, as it is home to two institutions of higher learning, Georgia Southwestern University and South Georgia Technical College.
Americus is decorated with historical architectural design, rows of boutique shops and unique restaurants featuring anything from five star cuisines to fantastic home-cooked traditional southern fare. It embraces the small town vibe where friends and neighbors wave hello and traffic is unheard of. It's a place to walk around on sunny afternoons, ice cream cone in hand and not a care in the world, which is why Rick Davis couldn't imagine a better place to build a community with the same ideals.
