Americus’s newest community introduces active adult living and mixed-use development to South Georgia

Combining the innovative concepts of active adult living and mixed-use development, The Village at SouthLand Ridge is the first community of its kind to make an appearance in South Georgia. More than just a neighborhood, the new development by Rick Davis, combines two of the latest trends in the housing market, active adult living and mixed-use development, which features a combination of residential and commercial entities in a single development.

Located in the heart of Southwest Georgia, in the town of Americus, the community is designed specifically for adults 55 and older, who are seeking an active lifestyle and maintenance-free homes in a convenient setting. The idea to create such a community originally stemmed from Davis’s own experience in trying to locate an active adult residential community for his mother.

“Today’s baby boomers are staying active longer and are not just looking for a place to retire to, but a lifestyle to enjoy and make the most of,” said Davis. “It was this thought process that guided the concept, core and development of The Village at SouthLand Ridge.”

The community features quaint cottage style maintenance-free homes, reflective of the town’s small-town southern charm. Offering five varying floorplans from the $160s to the $270s, residents can choose the cottage floor plan that best suits their taste and best suits their needs. Residents also have the choice of free standing or villa style homes, all featuring an array of available upgrades.

Serving as the social hub, the community’s 7,000 sq. ft. clubhouse, The Ridge, houses a fitness center, multi-purpose meeting rooms, a catering kitchen and spacious back porch that overlooks the beach entry pool. The community’s other trademark amenity is that of nature.

Home to nature trails, ponds and a community garden plot, the community embraces and incorporates nature into its design, encouraging residents to get outside and get active. “Being outdoors is essential for staying active, and it was very important that the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape was incorporated into the community and residents’ lifestyles,” Davis said.

The mixed-use development incorporates more than just nature into its design. The community mixes residential and commercial development by incorporating an intimate retail and doctor’s office within the neighborhood. Projected businesses include a coffee shop, hair salon, pharmacy, restaurant and other small shops to provide for everyday convenience in residents’ lives. “The Village at SouthLand Ridge is all about easy living, enjoying each day at your own convenience,” said Davis.
